What do you want from this life of yours?   What do you want it to feel like?  What do you want it to look like?  What do you want the outcome to be from your minutes, your hours, your days, and your years?   What do you want to believe? What do you want to change?  What do you want to know, for sure?

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, ‘what do I want’?

Maybe it’s time.

Here’s what I know, if we don’t get intentional about our lives, they will simply carry on without us.  I once heard Deepak Chopra say, “everyone is sleep walking”.   At that moment, I thought, that’s it!  We are trying to live unaware.  We are living unaware because we are unaware.   It’s like credit and experience… two things you need and two things you have to have in order to get them.   First, we have to wake up.  We have to decide we want to be aware.  I have a funny feeling if you are reading this blog, you are either awake or you want to be.   Both will work just fine.

Keep in mind: you are the only one you can wake up.   (Just in case you were thinking of sending this to someone in your life who you are most certain is asleep at the wheel, thinking a little nudge could help, I thought I’d remind you, better to attract rather than promote.  Or that other lovely idea – ‘if you spot it you got it’.   Meaning, if I think you need to wake up, I am most likely the one who needs to wake up).

A wise woman once said to me, “think of yourself as a company.  What’s your mission statement.”  It had never occurred to me, that I was without a mission statement.  Every successful organization, church, institution, school, rehab, store, group… whatever, all the ones that succeed, have a mission!  And yet, are we not more valuable than the places we shop, or learn, or attend, or go.  Of course we are.  So why don’t we have a mission statement for ourselves.

I am writing one with you.  It’s not that I have this thing down- this business of being intentional and knowing what I want- of becoming clear, no, not at all.  But, I am exploring it in broad day light with you.  I am awake.  I am seeking.  I am asking the questions.

STEP ONE:  TURN OFF ALL DEVICES – THIS REQUIRES PENCIL AND PAPER

STEP TWO: GET QUIET – EVEN IF IT’S ONLY FOR 10 MINUTES (if you don’t have 10 minutes get up 10 minutes earlier)

STEP THREE: ASK THE QUESTION, ‘WHAT DO I WANT’?.  THEN WRITE.  WHATEVER COMES UP FOR THE NEXT 10 MINUTES.  EVEN IF IT TURNS OUT TO BE A GROCERY LIST.  WRITE.

STEP FOUR: DON’T JUDGE IT.  JUST NOTICE.

Now, when you’ve finished that.  See if you can repeat the steps for one week.  I’m gonna do the same thing.  And let’s report back what happens, what we find.  Send me emails.  I want to know.  I’m listening.  Let’s get intentional together.

Sending you love wherever you are in the world.
